Bulgari

2020 Christmas Wish List
Maxi Chain Serpenti Bag

The original Serpenti bag is already fabulous, but this new Maxi Chain Bag rendition comes with a thicker, more contemporary chain that’s colour matched to the Nappa leather for a monochromatic, ultra-cool vibe. This one in hot pink is sure to turn heads anywhere you go.

Saint Louis

Tommy flared Tumbler (HK$1,500)

Saint Louis' Tommy flared tumblers are mouth-blown and cut by hand, with a beautiful star-shaped base and decorative cuts on the glass to throw beautiful hues over the beverage the contain. Available in clear crystal, light blue or amethyst.

Fendi

2020 Christmas Wish List
Pack Small Shopping Bag (HK$16,800)

Going truly back to basics is the new collection of unisex bags from the House of Fendi that’s inspired by the brand’s packaging in signature Fendi yellow. Too bold? There’s also this more delicate powder-pink colourway.

Louis Vuitton

Pillow Boot

Louis Vuitton’s Pillow Boot is made for lie-ins and time in with family, and that ultimate hygge feeling. If you’ve ever wanted to walk on clouds, this might be it.

Tifanny & Co

Schlumberger’s Earrings

Jean Schlumberger’s legendary designs are presented once again in Tiffany & Co’s latest high- jewellery collection. This pair of earrings in particular caught our eye - straight out of a fantasy, the fruit- like earrings are typical of Schlumberger’s imaginative designs.

Vacheron Constantin

Historiques Cornes De Vache 1955 (HK$580,000.00 guide price)

If you know me, you’ll know that Vacheron Constantin’s Historiques Cornes
Vache 1955
has been a grail watch for me for a long time that cannot be excluded from my 2020 Christmas Wish List. The quirky cow-horn-shaped lugs are beautifully elegant, and beating inside the watch is the calibre 1142, a modern update of the legendary Lemania 2310 movement.

Dolce & Gabbana

Royal Lipgloss (HK$450)

A gift for the lips, this Dolce & Gabbana Beauty Happy Holidays Collection royal lipgloss comes in a crystal-like formula for high shine, and yet is infused with sodium hyaluronate to keep lips healthily plump and voluminous. I love the deep burgundy shade, Precious Dahlia.

2020 Christmas Wish Lists: Charlene’s Picks

Having two young children at home, Christmas is a big occasion in our household. We'd usually celebrate the holidays in the US but this year, as many families are, we're staying put. We've dusted the Christmas decorations and lights and they're all decked and lit up. And as is our tradition, we'd have the girls make a wish list and it's worked wonderfully so far. One would argue it ruins the element of surprise but these days, I'd much rather get them gifts they really want. Interestingly, I've never really thought of making one myself, nor has it ever been suggested - note to the hubby . So it was a delight making my 2020 Christmas wish list, which contained just that right amount of bling, items that are practical - and not quite so, as well a few things I came across I'd also love to gift the special people in my life.

Sauvereign

Aphrodite box calf with a Cublk Gem (HK$ 54,800)

You got me at bespoke. Formerly R. Sanderson, Sauvereign provides a different retail experience where you can customise your shoes and in this case, your bag. My favourite feature? The “GEM” which you can pick to your preference to be used as the buckle that features a gold leaf - in real gold, mind you - intertwined with colours and dashed with gold powder.

Van Cleef & Arpels

Van Cleef & Arpels Rose de Noël mini model earrings (HK$ 111,000)

The French maison had just released its new Winter collection called Rose de Noël, which is ultra-feminine and dainty but can totally rock a jeans and white T-shirt ensemble. Crafted in n yellow gold, white mother-of-pearl and diamonds this pair can easily be your everyday go-to accessory.

Hermès

Hermès silk Exposition Universelle scarf by Jan Bajtlik (HK$ 3,700)

I’ve always preferred dressing in block colours, and often in dark shades so what better way to get a pop of colour than with this Hermès silk Exposition Universelle scarf designed by Jan Bajtlik. Surely it’s a fine, pastel-perfect accessory I’d love to get this Christmas.

Bvlgari

Bvlgari Serpenti white gold ring set with pavé diamonds and two emerald eyes (HK$ 331,000)

I saw this Bvlgari Serpenti diamond ring on a friend and it was quite a sight. I could not tear my eyes from it and I instantly knew it was gonna make it to my 2020 Christmas wish list. I suppose with anything Bulgari, that is always the point, is it? While it’s definitely a bold piece, it’s one you can pull off wearing casual clothes, and of course, needless to say also be perfect for that fancy night out. I also like that the ring has several articulations that make it expandable and really comfortable to wear.

Montblanc

I’m old school and still prefer jotting things down so I’ve included in my wish list Montblanc’s notebook with the Heritage Egyptomania cover - will you look at that brilliant colour combination - which is made with calfskin Saffiano leather and digital print pattern.

H. Moser & Cie

H. Moser & Cie Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Automatic Funky Blue (HK$ 332,000)

While I’m usually partial to watches that fit my wrist to a T, I will make an exception for H. Moser & Cie’s Streamliner watch. The watch is every bit sleek, reminiscent of 1920s locomotive designs. Its minimalist and steely appearance is nicely countered by the Funky Blue fumé dial.

Tiffany & Co

double cat bowl in bone china (HK$ 1,550); bone collar charm (HK$ 1,550)

I don’t have a dog, not yet anyway, but I have many friends that do so when I came across this Tiffany & Co suite of dog accessories, which includes a leather pet collar, bowl in bone china, and a collar charm, I couldn’t help get that furry feeling.

Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton Vivienne 4 Seasons cups set (HK$ 8,150)

These Louis Vuitton Vivienne 4 Seasons goblets made from white porcelain and painted with LV’s Vivienne mascots in different locations around the world is just something I’d love to have on the table setting - and isn’t the silver-colour rim detail such a classy touch?

Dior

And for my 7-year-old girl who loves anything and everything feminine, who has included in her wish list "high heel shoos" this pair of Dior patent calfskin Miss B ballet flats with a woven ribbon is just perfect. I can imagine it will look just as gorgeous with one of her puffy party dresses or with trousers matched with a dainty pea coat.

Cartier

To keep my work desk organised but still decorative - and festive, I'd love this Cartier Panthère de Cartier trinket tray, where I can stash everything from my Airpod case, pens, loose change and accessories.

Lalique

Having a full household, there is almost always cooking going on so we usually have scented candles lit to counter the smell, and indeed, it's just such a wonderful, relaxing aroma to linger about so this Lalique La Nuit candle caught my fancy and definitely deserves a spot in my 2020 Christmas wish list, and it burns for as long as 60 hours. And it certainly does not hurt that it looks beautiful on the coffee table next to your books and ornaments.

The Evolution of Louis Vuitton’s Legendary Trunks

louis vuitton trunks

We take a brief look at the history and evolution of the iconic Louis Vuitton trunks through the ages.

Louis Vuitton – the maison, not the man – was founded back in 1854 at the now storied Rue Neuve des Capucines in Paris, France. By that time, Louis Vuitton already had 17 years’ worth of experience working with one of Paris’ most reputable layetier emballeurs, experts in the art of packing and protecting garments. But instead of simply leveraging his well-established credentials, Louis Vuitton went for radical innovation: Luggage pieces that would be lighter and stronger to meet the demand of travellers going faster and farther, while also being aesthetically striking. In other words, he aimed to stand apart from the competition to create pieces that would become true essential items.

Still in 1854, Louis Vuitton started covering trunks with a light yet resistant canvas known as Gris Trianon. It quickly became a signature of the maison and was even called Vuittonite. Next came the creation of the first flat topped, rectangular trunk which could easily be stacked. While this might sound obvious, at the time rounded-top trunks were commonly used.

It goes without saying that copycats and imitators soon followed. So, Louis Vuitton began to focus on the covering fabrics of the trunks to convey the maison’s identity. In the early 1870s Louis Vuitton trunks used a red-striped canvas, which gave way to the Damier check in 1888. Then in 1896 the Monogram canvas was born. The design – created by Georges Vuitton – combined the founder’s initials with abstract floral shapes. Then in 1906, Louis Vuitton started creating trunks in the style that today’s shoppers would instantly recognise.

A particularly interesting element in this saga is Louis Vuitton’s Asnières atelier in the Parisian suburbs, which has created a wealth of exceptional, custom-made pieces for over a century and a half, and continues to do so today. The atelier’s creations range from explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza’s famous “Trunk Bed” for his expeditions in 1905 to last year’s Louis Vuitton x League of Legends Trophy Travel Case.

[gallery ids="211526,211527,211528,211529,211530,211531,211532,211533"]

The journey of Louis Vuitton’s trunks began with innovation and ever since, innovation has stayed at the forefront of the maison’s hard-sided creations. New technology – such as 3D printing – continue to expand the possibilities for purpose-built trunks while the brilliant minds of Louis Vuitton’s designers and artisans ensure that the brand’s trunk remain “aesthetically striking” essentials.

Case in point, the Malle Fleurs highlighted at Men’s Artistic Director Virgil Abloh’s Spring-Summer 2020 show.

[caption id="attachment_211534" align="aligncenter" width="683"]louis vuitton trunks Malle Fleurs 110, men’s show, Spring/Summer 2020[/caption]

So, wherever you travel to and whatever you might be carrying – whether it’s your daily essentials for a much-needed holiday, a delicate bouquet of flowers, your watch collection, a game to while away the time, or even the FIFA World Cup – Louis Vuitton can create the perfect trunk to accompany you.

David Beckham’s Fall/Winter Eyewear, Miu Miu Announces Upcycled Collection, and More Fashion News This October

fashion news october

The Milan and Paris fashion weeks have ended, but there's still a lot going on in the world of style.

From new collection launches to a very unexpected Spring 2021 show, here's a round-up of all the important fashion news in October that you need to know about.

Miu Miu goes sustainable with the Upcycled by Miu Miu collection

The Italian label has announced an upcoming Upcycled by Miu Miu line, comprising one-off designs crafted from antique pieces from the 1930s to 1970s, which are sourced from vintage shops and markets around the world. These items are restored and refashioned with details such as paillettes, crystals, ribbons and bows. The collection is slated to launch during the holiday season later this year, and will start off with 80 dresses that are all unique and hand-finished.
[gallery ids="211320,211321"]
Actresses Chen Ran and Elisa Visari recently debuted two dresses from the collection, when they attended the digital Green Carpet Fashion Awards. Visari's orange cocktail dress (above) is reinterpreted from a 1960s design and adorned with glass pearls on its ivory duchesse silk puff sleeves.

David Beckham releases Fall/Winter 2020 eyewear collection

The former footballer launched his maiden eyewear line of sunglasses and optical frames earlier this year in collaboration with Safilo Group, and has now added a new Fall/Winter 2020 range to it. Many of the new designs are crafted with retro and vintage-inspired shapes and feature options such as blue-blocker lenses (which protect eyes from blue light from artificial light and digital devices) and durable, scratch-proof mineral lenses.

Bottega Veneta skips Milan Fashion Week and holds a surprise Spring 2021 preview in London

Bottega Veneta wasn't on the agenda at this year's Milan Fashion Week, because it had other big plans — an exclusive, by-invite-only Spring 2021 presentation limited to a select group of VIP guests.

Titled 'Bottega Veneta Salon 01 London', the event was held last week at Sadler's Wells theatre in London and was attended by the likes of actresses Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Salma Hayek, singer-songwriter Neneh Cherry, and rapper Kanye West with his daughter North. Not much else is known about the Italian fashion house's Spring 2021 collection yet, but we're excited to find out.

Louis Vuitton announces a collaboration with NBA

The French maison has teamed up with the National Basketball Association (NBA) on LVxNBA, a menswear capsule collection under the artistic direction of Virgil Abloh. This is part of Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2021 pre-collection range and will launch on November 20. It comprises limited edition apparel, accessories, and leather goods and shoes adorned with emblems from both brands.

[gallery ids="211297,211298,211296"]

The brand also created a monogrammed trophy travel case for the Larry O’Brien Trophy that was presented to the Los Angeles Lakers, who emerged tops at the recent NBA finals. Its partnership with the NBA will last three years.

Valentino celebrates 10 years of its iconic Rockstud

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of its famed Rockstud motif, the Italian label has unveiled Valentino Garavani Rockstud X, a series of collaborations and dialogues with designers, brands and artists who will produce their own interpretation of the stud.
[caption id="attachment_211299" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Also in the most buzzworthy fashion news for October is the Valentino Garavani Rockstud X project, which will see creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli and British designer Craig Green having a conversation. (Image: Valentino)[/caption]
