Beauty Evolution by Clé de Peau Beauté

With a name that means the “key to beautiful skin”, Clé de Peau Beauté has built its reputation on cutting-edge skincare science and aesthetics. The Japanese beauty brand, launched by the Shiseido group in 1982, is best known for its signature La Crème, a rich night cream formulated to firm, brighten and moisturise, and its cult-favourite, full-coverage Concealer.
This month, Clé de Peau Beauté embraces the new pro-ageing concept with the introduction of its Key Radiance Care collection. The three-step skincare ritual – comprising a serum, lotion and moisturiser – builds on the brand’s scientific approach to achieving radiant, healthy-looking skin.
It’s also a response to what the brand sees as a widening focus of beauty “to include the radiance of wisdom and lived experience”. The all-out pursuit of erasing wrinkles and freezing time has been replaced by discovering one’s own strength and inner glow.
Clé de Peau Beauté aims to support this “global call for holistic, sustainable beauty” by creating products that allow skin to reach its highest potential, through improved texture, contours and skin tone. And rather than delivering a quick fix, the products are designed to work together to enhance the skin with each passing day.
[caption id="attachment_156152" align="alignnone" width="1200"]
Five key ingredients: Platinum Golden Silk Extract, Perilla Extract, Theanine, Japanese Pearl Shell Extract and Angelica Acutiloba Extract.[/caption]
The first step in the Key Radiance Care collection is Le Sérum, an easily absorbed formula that prepares the skin for the steps to follow. Like all products in the series, it’s powered by the new Skin-Empowering Illuminator, which works to awaken, nurture and boost Skin Intelligence.
Next is the lotion, in two types for different skin needs. Hydro-Softening Lotion has rich moisturising agents to reduce roughness, while Hydro-Clarifying Lotion targets visible pores. Both feature extracts of the medicinal herb scutellaria baicalensis to protect skin from oxidative stressors. The lotion is applied morning and evening, after The Serum, with a cotton pad.
An emulsion or cream is the final step in the ritual, the former applied with a cotton pad and the latter by hand. Protective Fortifying Emulsion and Cream are designed for day use and Intensive Fortifying Emulsion and Cream for night, all with Clé de Peau Beauté’s Time Tune technology to work with the skin’s circadian rhythms.
Key Radiance Care launches on August 8, but tests carried out by more than 100 Asian women in Korea and more 100 Caucasian women in the United States have already have shown the overwhelming majority appreciate the indulgent, luxurious textures and felt the products helped keep their skin in optimal condition.

Tom Ford Is Launching a Skincare Line

The craze for celebrity beauty brands has kicked into high gear and there seems to be no sign of it slowing down any time soon. There’s Lady Gaga’s Haus Laboratories and Rihanna’s Fenty line; now, celebrity fashion designer Tom Ford is taking a stab at it.
First, a bit of background: Estée Lauder–owned Tom Ford Beauty launched in 2006 with the brand's first fragrance, Tom Ford Black Orchid. In 2007, the Private Blend Collection of 12 unisex scents was introduced; by 2011, Tom Ford Beauty brought colour to the game with makeup for the face, eyes and lips.
[caption id="attachment_154511" align="alignnone" width="683"]
Tom Ford[/caption]
Now, the fashion designer and filmmaker has just revealed his next project: a high-end skincare line called Tom Ford Research. Three years in the making, the brand will make its debut with a Serum Concentrate (US$350) and a Crème Concentrate (US$450). These two items will be exclusively available at Saks Fifth Avenue starting from August, followed by an international launch in September. Three more products will be added to the line in March 2020. Good news for most of us in Hong Kong: Ford has also announced that its upcoming skincare products will be geared towards the Asian market.
[inline-quote author="Tom Ford"]"I wanted to start a serious skincare arm and have it be science-based. This is a real skincare product and regimen. I’m not a designer who has thrown his name on a beautifully packaged cream."[/inline-quote]
We'll be eagerly awaiting the arrival of the first two Tom Ford Research products. In the meantime, here are some of our favourite products from Tom Ford Beauty:

Smell Like A Masterpiece With the Louvre’s 8 New Art-Inspired Fragrances

Want to smell like a work of art? We don't mean it literally, but now you can purchase a scent that's inspired by some of the masterpieces found inside the hallowed halls of the Louvre. In a world-first beauty collaboration of its kind, the iconic French museum has partnered with cult favourite, Parisian perfumery and beauty brand Officine Universelle Buly -- otherwise known as Buly 1803 -- for eight new fragrances based on some of the museum's most famous artworks.
[caption id="attachment_153319" align="alignnone" width="1024"]
To create the unique scents, Ramdane Touhami and Victoire de Taillac, the co-founders of Buly 1803, approached eight experts of the perfume world to portray the scent of eight selected artworks from Louvre's collection. They considered things such as subject matter and emotional impact, in addition to the 'look and feel', to create these one-of-a-kind perfumes, scented candles, scented soap sheets, and scented postcards.
[caption id="attachment_153312" align="alignnone" width="1024"]
Winged Victory of Samothrace (left), Venus de Milo (right)[/caption]
Highlights include the ancient Greek statue Venus de Milo, interpreted by perfumer Jean-Christophe Hérault as a rousing combination of mandarin, jasmine and amber; another Hellenistic sculpture, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, or Nike the Greek goddess of victory, has been translated by perfumer Aliénor Massenet into a beautiful bouquet of tuberose, magnolia and jasmine warmed up by the aromatics of myrrh. Meanwhile, the famous 1814 oil painting La Grande Odalisque by French Neoclassical painter Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres is interpreted with a musky intensity with accents of pink pepper and incense by perfumer Domitille Michalon-Bertier.
[caption id="attachment_153317" align="alignnone" width="1024"]
The fragrances are available in a retail space within the famed Louvre Museum | Image courtesy of Buly[/caption]
Other chosen art pieces include The Valpinçon Bather, depicted by the perfumer Daniela Andrier; Conversation in a Park by Dorothée Piot; Nymph With Scorpion by Annick Ménardo; Saint Joseph Charpentier by Sidonie Lancesseur; and The Bolt by Delphine Lebeau. As far as the Mona Lisa goes, it was said to be too much of an obvious choice and thus the world's most-visited artwork will not have her own fragrance -- for now, at least.
The full collection is available now on the Buly 1803 website and at the Louvre museum store in Paris until 6 January 2020.
