New in Beauty This January 2022
Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia Fragrance
It’s difficult to tell what’s most intriguing about Flora Gorgeous Gardenia, the newest fragrance from Gucci: the floral but delicately sweet scent or the stunning bottle it comes in. The perfume blends white gardenia with jasmine grandiflorum and pear blossom, with a touch of brown sugar accord, for a captivating but never overpowering fragrance. And the lacquered pink bottle — featuring the Flora pattern originally created for Gucci in 1966 by artist Vittorio Accornero, now re-imagined by creative director Alessandro Michele — is a standout.
Nonfiction For Rest Fragrance
The sixth signature scent from minimalist Korean beauty brand Nonfiction promises to be sophisticated and modern, with a simple monochrome identity and a fresh woodsy musk scent created by master perfumer Barnabé Fillion. The main notes include hinoki, frankincense, Turkish rose, yuzu and nutmeg. In two sizes, Nonfiction For Rest Fragrance is available at Sephora Hong Kong.
Jimmy Choo Beauty Capsule Collection
Jimmy Choo has launched a make-up and fragrance capsule collection, comprising lipsticks and an exclusive set of six concentrated perfumes. Scents include notes of iris, vanilla, rose, white musk and oud wood. The entire collection is available at a Beauty Botanica pop-up in Landmark until the end of this month, and at select Jimmy Choo boutiques.
Moncler Pour Femme & Moncler Pour Homme Fragrances
Best known for skiwear, Moncler has released its first fragrances: Moncler Pour Femme and Moncler Pour Homme. The scents are the work of four master perfumers who created concoctions that pay homage to the brand’s alpine identity — the fragrance duo share a unique mountain wood accord exclusive to Moncler, and are housed in flask-shaped bottles.
NARS Lunar New Year Collection
If you’re already missing NYE celebrations, ring in the CNY with the Lunar New Year Collection from NARS, which includes two limited-edition products in traditional red and gold packaging. We love the look of the Taj Mahal Quad Eyeshadow — an ultra-luxe four-pan palette inspired by the brand’s classic blush shade — that features a yellow-gold shimmer, a light peach shimmer, a multidimensional burnt-orange shimmer, and a purple-red matte.
MATCHY! Magnetic Lashes
Touted as the first magnet-based false lash brand in Asia, MATCHY! has debuted in Hong Kong with a range of falsies that snap on without the need for glue. Whether you’re a novice or an expert, they promise to give you the lash look you’re after — delicate and natural-looking, thick and full, long and luscious — in no time, and with little effort or mess. The brand carries black and brown lashes in 12 styles and is available at matchylashes.com
Guerlain Orchidée Impériale Foundation Concentrate
Harnessing the brand’s exclusive brightening technology, Guerlain’s new Orchidée Impériale Foundation Concentrate is a skincare–makeup hybrid that delivers intense hydration, high coverage and a flawless finish for up to 10 hours. Velvety to the touch, it adapts to the contours of the face while avoiding bleeding into wrinkles and fine lines — ideal for those with mature or textured skin who seek a natural look.
Kérastase Chronologiste
The rejuvenating Chronologiste range from expert hair care brand Kérastase harnesses the power of three star ingredients — hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and abyssine — to deeply nourish the hair, repair damage and protect your strands from external aggressors. Products include a pre-shampoo hair cleanser, a gentle revitalising shampoo, a hair mask, fragrance hair oil, a heat protectant and a hair serum.
Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Serum
One of the French luxury brand’s star beauty products, the Dior Addict Lip Maximizer plumping gloss is now available as a lip care-focused clear hybrid gloss-serum. The Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Serum promises 24 hours of hydration, nourishing and smoothening the lips with the use of mallow extract, 100% natural-origin hyaluronic acid, a blend of sensorial oils and vegetable waxes, and a peptide that helps stimulate collagen.
Tatcha Red Camellia The Kissu Lip Mask
Tatcha’s bestselling The Kissu Lip Mask is getting a tinted update, featuring the same smoothening and plumping formula with a brand new subtle red hue. Harnessing the nourishing properties of Japanese peach extract, squalane and camellia oil, the non-sticky jelly lip treatment is now available in a limited-edition “Red Camellia” form inspired by the striking red flower of the same name, exclusively at Lane Crawford.
Chloé Eau de Parfum Naturelle
A new addition to french luxury house Chloé’s signature perfume collection, Eau de Parfum Naturelle is a 100-percent natural-origin fragrance developed with ethically sourced ingredients and lower-impact packaging. Featuring the Maison’s fresh woodsy-rose scent, the formula is vegan with water and naturally derived alcohol and free from artificial colouring.
Burberry Matte Lip Colour
British fashion house Burberry has added an all-new Matte Lip Colour to its Burberry Kisses lipstick line — a luminous matte with hyaluronic acid to ensure hydration and comfortable wear on the lips, and an intense colour payoff that promises to last the whole night. Packed with pigment, it only needs one stroke for high coverage. It’s available in 20 shades, including the luxury brand’s signature colours: Red, red-brown Russet, Soft Pink and Burgundy.
Gucci Beauty Rouge De Beauté Brillant
Gucci Beauty has added three vibrant new shades to its Rouge De Beauté Brillant hybrid balm-lipstick line — a burnt-orange Lucy Dark Orange, a dark-pink Diana Amber and an Abbie Maroon Red. Sitting between a sheer and satin finish, the deeply moisturising formula features a concoction of flower oils, fruit butters and hyaluronic acid to deliver hydration and a lip-plumping effect. It’s available now at all Gucci Beauty counters.
Benefit Brightening Face Primer
Benefit’s “that gal” Brightening Face Primer is now available in three shades, with two new colour-correcting options to help even out your complexion and create the perfect base for make-up application. With raspberry, chamomile and oat-kernel extracts, the silky lotion-like primer comes in a Silky Pink for a rosy glow, a Silky Lavender to brighten and cover sallowness, and a Silky Green to conceal redness.
And, while stocks last, here are a few of our holiday collection picks...
The holidays may be over, but there's no deadline on picking up a skincare kit or makeup duo. Grab them while stocks last.
Fenty Beauty Resting Peach Face
We loved everything in the holiday collection from Fenty Beauty — especially the brand new 12-pan Bomb Posse Mega Mix & Match Eyeshadow Palette — but our pick of the bunch is the limited-edition Resting Peach Face duo. Featuring two best-selling cream products in all-new set-exclusive peach shades — a full-size Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush and a mini Gloss Bomb Cream Color Drip Lip Cream — it’s perfect for a soft wash of peach colour to the cheeks and lips.
Hourglass Cosmetics Unlocked + Caution™ Mascara Duo
This limited-edition gift set from Hourglass Cosmetics features the brand’s bestselling mascaras — Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara and Caution Extreme Lash Mascara — that deliver length and volume to your lashes with long-staying power and absolutely no flaking. Layer both for the most impact, using Caution to build volume and finishing with Unlocked to lengthen. As part of Hourglass’ cruelty-free mission, 5 percent of the annual profits from Unlocked Mascara will be donated to the Nonhuman Rights Project, a US organisation that works to secure fundamental rights for animals.
Drunk Elephant Kissy Face Skin Kit The Babyfacial Routine
Drunk Elephant’s holiday collection included four kits that promise to strengthen your skin’s barrier. Our eyes are on the Kissy Face “softening routine” set, featuring two full-size cult favourites — the TLC Sukari Babyfacial AHA/BHA skin resurfacing chemical exfoliant and the Lala Retro Whipped Cream moisturiser that rescues the skin’s acid mantle.

More Than Skin Deep: Beauty Brands That Give Back
Shanyan Fok Koder and Richard Bassett explain how a Hong Kong art entrepreneur joined forces with a former special-forces soldier to launch a health and mental wellbeing app, Mentor360.
"Mental health and mental fitness are universal concerns," says Shanyan Fok Koder. "And regardless of your demographic, social status, your job or your age, it’s something everyone has to deal with."
Shanyan Fok Koder & Richard Bassett on Mental Health App Mentor360
The Mentor360 app dropped on World Mental Health Day in October, the cumulation of the last 20 months of work and conversations (usually across continents over Zoom) between former military man Richard Bassett and worldly art advisor Koder. A month later, I’m sitting with both in a North London café talking over slices of pizza.
Their app, they hope, offers everyone a holistic 360 guide and framework to “finding your formula” for mental and physical wellbeing. It uses a hybrid approach, with a core layer of clinicians and professional Mentors and then celebrity Ambassadors (who’ve publicly shared meaningful life stories) critical for building noise and momentum.
"I’d been in the military for a long time. And there were a couple of incidents in my life that made me want to create something," Bassett, the CEO, explains. "Firstly, it was my father committing suicide. Then my son had a bit of misdirection. And several of my friends in the military had PTSD issues or adjustment disorders."
"The biggest issue is why people wouldn’t come forward and say they’ve got a problem?” he asks.
“Unlike some apps, we’re not trying to get people hooked. Come on to it when you need it”
— Richard Bassett
The answer often lay in culture, lack of education or concerns about privacy that prevent many from seeking help. With that came Bassett’s idea of creating an app that functions as a “non-judgmental toolkit” with content validated by experts – who include coaches, performance psychologists, mental health-specialising nurses and a clinical psychologist.
Basset’s link with Koder came when his best friend, ex-special forces colleague and TV star Jason Fox, sat next to a pregnant Koder at a charity fundraiser for Born (which researches to prevent premature birth) in late 2019. As the pair talked about their passions for mental health and children’s wellbeing, the connection to Bassett’s idea became quickly apparent.
"Foxy told me that I have to meet his friend, Richard, who’s building this app," Koder recalls. "I was always wanting to support things that are very meaningful and close to my heart … and now Jason is actually our key mentor. The partnership between Richard and I was almost like two parts of a jigsaw puzzle come together."
Although some might go to the app for help with stress, trauma or even resources to help with suicidal feelings, Mentor360 is designed specifically as a three-dimensional offering that will also encourage fitness, workouts, performance and meditation or more clinical matters.
"We wanted to maintain the human factor as a constant throughout. So it feels like somebody has given you some advice rather than some process-driven machine learning," Bassett adds.
The co-founders might come from two different worlds, but the unlikely partnership speaks to the ubiquity of the issues at hand. Bassett’s 25-year military career saw him being appointed the first ever Command Sergeant Major within the UK Special Forces military group. "It was at that stage where I was asked if I wanted to run defence,” he says. “At that point, I thought, I’ve kind of had my fill of the military now, it’s time to move on."
Koder meanwhile grew up in Hong Kong and the UK as the daughter of Li Ka-shing’s "right-hand man" Canning Fok, carving out a career in the arts and taking over her family’s impressive collection. As a female art entrepreneur and mother, her challenges would be different.
"When I had the misfortune of losing three babies to miscarriage and dealing with that emotional fallout, it led me to want to support this as a cause," Koder divulges. "If there’d been something like this app available to me, I don’t think I’d have suffered as much as I did emotionally. It’s a topic that’s still very taboo, even in this day and age … and while you eventually find your own community, at the very beginning, you do feel very alone."
Both were clearly driven towards the app through deeply personal experiences. Bassett saw first-hand how soldiers who’d done several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan suffered – his best friend, Fox, had left the forces with PTSD. Perhaps machismo or fear of institutional repercussions meant that the issue was often ignored or hidden in the military – but he hopes that Mentor360’s holistic approach can gently lead people to explore mental fitness alongside physical performance too.
The male-female perspectives of the pair offer a well-rounded, powerful tool. And while the wellness space is already crowded, Mentor360 stands out by being so broad, human-focused and non-prescriptive.
There’s been exciting traction too. Since its launch, the app has been downloaded in more than 176 countries, with the UK, the US and Australia leading. British schools have reached out and it’s one governance board away from being trialled within the National Health Service (NHS), which means added clinical risk management in the app. That has been an important validation, says Bassett, "especially when an institution like that has picked it out from a huge spectrum of apps on the market today."
Covid-19 and lockdowns have helped throw light on mental health, taking the conversation more mainstream. The timeliness has hit home; as Bassett says, “there’s a lot of people now struggling with the transition between Covid and normality”.
Koder tells us that the plan is to serve individuals but also institutions such as the NHS and the military. There’s also the option of “white labelling” it, so the app can be packaged and tailored to certain industries or corporate employees. In the future, might they look more global, with different languages and translations? Absolutely, the pair say, but they’re taking it “slow and steady”. There’s been interest from American corporations and Koder says that she’s keen to push into Asia very soon. Although going truly global might mean translating for languages, cultures and tone, as well as working with diverse psychologists, it remains a future ambition.
Mentor360 may be extra helpful in cultures where mental health is still relatively taboo. As Koder says, "I think, coming from our Asian culture, it speaks volumes to me – so much of our culture is about still performance or hiding a lot of what you’re feeling."
"Unlike some apps,” Bassett adds, "what we’re not trying to do is create a hook or get people hooked. Come on to it when you need it, and if you don’t need it for a while because you’re good, you can just put it away … We’re starting to see those patterns in the trend analysis."
To get a little personal, I ask what works for them individually to keep a healthy mind and body. Bassett’s formula revolves around daily exercise, time with the family, dogs and good sleep – even the occasional glass of wine on the sofa in front of a crackling fireplace. Koder’s happiness hacks centre around motherhood, being content and at peace in her skin, and looking at life with a certain romanticism: "I always love to see the poetry in my day,” she says, "and I think it’s important to just pause throughout the day, check-in and acknowledge that I’ve achieved these things and I should be proud of myself, rather than just rushing on to the next thing."

New in Beauty This September 2021: Valentino, CHANEL, Dolce & Gabbana
Most of us know Wil Fang as the founder of Cookie DPT and Carbs. To his friends however, he's a bit of a hoarder. From sneakers and collectibles to a budding watch collection, the connoisseur of classic all-American fare tells us about his collecting habits, his quartet of Rolexes and what makes him tick.
Wil Fang will tell you he’s no watch collector – yet. He’s merely starting out, dipping his toes in. But step through the doors to his apartment that’s decked out in all sorts of collectibles – from Bearbricks to the Mr Moncler figurine created by artist Craig Costello and various Louis Vuitton x Supreme items – and you’ll see telling signs that he has the potential to become a very serious one.
That is, if his sneaker collection is anything to go by. Fang has a room lined with floor-to-ceiling shelving, dedicated to housing his 400-plus pairs of sneakers. At a glance, there are autographed Air Jordans, limited-edition Off-Whites, Fear of God, and more. His collection is still growing; he points to a couple of boxes stacked on a Supreme logo-ed folding chair – “I haven’t worn those yet,” he tells me.
Fang’s interest in sneakers grew from childhood – his first pair of Jordans was from his mother, when he was in third grade. He also has a single Jordan shoe, signed by the entire Chicago Bulls team, which he displays in a glass box.
“I even have a magazine signed by Dennis Rodman, Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan after they won 72-10,” says Fang, referring to 1995-1996, when the Chicago Bulls set the record for the most wins in an NBA regular season. “I’m a huge Jordan fan and I always wear Jordans. He was my idol growing up.”
But back to watch collecting: “I’ve had quite a few watches, but I’d say the first serious timepiece I own is this Rolex, which my wife gave me on our wedding day,” says Fang.
The watch in question is a Rolex Submariner, in steel with a black dial and bezel. “When my wife got it for me, it wasn’t crazy expensive,” he continues. “Five years ago it wasn’t even difficult to get, like it is today. Things have definitely changed.”
Rolex was the definitive watch of Hong Kong culture, the ultimate milestone watch that you’d get for a special occasion. “It’s almost like the standard entry-level watch here,” says Fang. “Everyone’s got some sort of Rolex, whether it’s a Sub or a Milgauss – for a lot of my friends here, it’s very normal for them to get a Submariner for graduation or when they land their first job.”
The watch Fang got for himself when he got his first pay cheque, however, wasn’t a Rolex. When he graduated with a double major in mechanical engineering and business management from Bucknell University in 2005, he joined Ralph Lauren and was quickly sucked into the company culture.
“We weren’t required to wear any particular uniform, but as a young professional, you see your bosses walking around in suits and nice watches, and you start becoming part of that culture,” Fang recalls. “And, you know, it’s aspirational.”
And soon enough, his interest was piqued. The first watch he bought for himself with his own salary was a TAG Heuer Link chronograph, which he still owns. “In Hong Kong, maybe it’s not a big deal, but back then, when you’re 22 years old in the States, it’s a pretty nice watch. It was a gift to myself.”
Later, as Ralph Lauren ventured into timepieces, Fang also invested in a dress watch. “It was unnecessarily quite expensive,” he says with a chuckle. “It was a Ralph Lauren watch and I probably should have put that money into something else, but it’s a prototype model. It’s definitely sentimental and I’ll never sell it or get rid of it. It’ll stay in my collection.”
Later, Fang’s work brought him to Hong Kong and, in 2016, he found himself in Taipei with a group of friends launching a fashion retail concept store called DPT. “It was one of those dream-come-true situations,” says Fang. “I’m half-Taiwanese and Hong Kong was home, so I was commuting weekly back and forth from Taipei for
two years.”
It was at DPT that Fang’s sneaker collection really flourished. “I’m a sneakerhead,” he says, enthusiastically. “I’ve had sneakers my whole life, but when you open your own shop and brands send you 50 pairs and you could have your first pick, it was like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve made it.’”
Owning the sneakers – and the watches – was only part of the thrill. A huge part of what makes the community so exciting was the hunt for a good bargain, the relationships you build with your authorised dealers, and the full experience of receiving the goods.
“The cool thing about collecting is like, once you have it, you have it, but there’s also a story of how you got them, whether they’re sneakers or watches,” says Fang. “I’ve seen my friends pick up their watches at a VIP house and it’s a great day, you know, everyone’s excited and they come with a bottle of champagne. It’s all part of the process.”
After his wedding Submariner opened the floodgates, Fang picked up a “Panda” Daytona with a black ceramic bezel, an Explorer and a vintage “Pepsi” GMT Master with a faded bezel, explaining that Rolex was an easy entry point to collecting for him. “I like things that are more modern, a bit more subtle and sleek,” he says. “White gold or steel and black. Something that’s very clean and not too flashy.”
“Collecting watches is definitely a more expensive hobby. It’s not like collecting suits or sneakers,” says Fang. “But what I like about it is the community. It’s much smaller, more intimate. I don’t even consider myself a watch collector at this point, but from an interest perspective, I really like the circle. They come from all places – from F&B, fashion, finance, entrepreneurs – you meet so many interesting people through collecting. And a lot of them are successful, so it also gives me the drive and the mentality to work hard in my own businesses too.”
That drive is serving him well. Unfazed by the pandemic, Fang and the DPT Group are launching a takeout pizza business called Carbs – “I’m playing the devil’s advocate,” says Fang.
“Covid isn’t such a happy time but seeing the success of a fast-moving takeout delivery business gives us the confidence that, even in the toughest times, Carbs will be OK.” And how could it not be? Comfort mac-and-cheese, authentic Chicago deep-dish pizzas, fried chicken, and hands-down the best spicy vodka fusilli I’ve tasted. Perhaps as Hong Kong’s appetite for Fang’s goods continues to grow, so will his watch collection.

5 Gold-Infused Beauty Products to Try for That Youthful Glow

Behind Beauty Brand Tatcha is Founder Vicky Tsai’s Happy Face
Fifty metres underground — this is the depth that local winemakers chose when they decided to store 10,000 wine bottles in the Aven d'Orgnac caves, an underground tourist attraction located at the southern end of the limestone plateau of the Gorges de l'Ardèche.
The experiment began in March 2018, when a new storage facility was specially created in a disused access tunnel to allow wine to mature in what amounts to a highly stable and peaceful environment.
A living product that ages best in undisturbed darkness, the wine will have benefited from ideal conditions: A constant temperature of around 12°C and an all-year-long rate of humidity of over 95%.
On December 12, 1,000 bottles of Côtes du Vivarais "Grand Aven 2017" from this treasure trove will be passed from hand to hand by a chain of human volunteers who will bring them back to the surface after two years underground. Thereafter, they will go under the hammer with a range of other local vintages in an auction with modest reserve prices.
Lots on offer will include 150 magnums of Terra Helvorum 2017 starting at 30 euros, 350 bottles of 2015 Terra Helvorum for as little as 15 euros and 350 bottles of Grand Aven 2016 from just 10 euros.
On land and sea
These days, experiments to store wine deep underground are very much in vogue in France. On June 3 of this year, 500 bottles were placed in racks at a depth of 103 metres in caves in Padirac under the watchful eye of Serge Dubs, the Best Sommelier of the World in 1989.
The first of these to return to the surface will be brought up for an initial tasting in the spring of 2021. And let's not forget that this experiment is focused on a very particular wine: A Clos Triguedina Cahors, christened Cuvée Probus, which has been produced to honour the 130-year anniversary of the Padirac Chasm.
Surprisingly enough, this new approach to maturing wine was initially inspired by a find at sea. In 2010, divers in the Baltic discovered a wreck containing what turned out to be a cargo of champagne, which was probably on its way to 1840s Russia.
The wave of experimentation that is now ongoing began when the bubbly, which was made by such houses as Veuve Clicquot, Heidsieck and the now defunct Juglar, was discovered to still be delicious after some 170 years under water.
In Saint-Jean-de-Luz in the French Basque country, winemaker Emmanuel Poirmeur has registered a patent for a process that involves vinifying wine in special vats at a depth of 15 metres under water. For its part, Leclerc-Briant set a record when it vinified one of its champagnes at a depth of 60 meters under the Atlantic in 2012, not surprisingly the vintage was christened "Abyss."

[gallery ids="194034,194033"]
French beauty brand L’Occitane is releasing its first ever sheet masks – and they are launching not one, but two variations; the Immortelle Hydration & Glow Mask and Reine Blanche Instant Illuminating Mask. Taking the star ingredient from its bestseller, the Immortelle mask is soaked in 25ml of the serum formula that is designed to deliver into the depths of the skin in just 10 minutes to plump and revitalise. The Reine Blanche is expected to be a hit in Asian markets for its whitening and brightening effects. Using also the same dosage of serum in its mask, the Reine Blanche promises to instantly soothe and illuminate skin.

Lancôme Genefique Microbiombe
Microbiombe is all the rage in skincare now. Since scientific research has confirmed the benefits of probiotics in our skincare, beauty brands have been advancing and creating new formulas with increased efficacy. So when a hero product like Lancôme’s Advanced Génefique serum with such rave reviews (and 25 million bottles sold worldwide since its launch a decade ago) gets an upgrade, its fanbase is quick to snatch up the revised formulation. The new serum is enriched with seven pre- and probiotic fractions to balance bacteria and boost the health of our skin’s microbiome (the ecosystem of bacterial cells on our body). Sugars, amino acids and lipids in Genefique Microbiome are regulated to help the skin defend itself and recover from all the harmful stressors such as pollution, UV, hormones and medication. Studies show an improvement in radiance, evenness, smoothness, elasticity and firmness following use of the new product.

Decorté Whitelogist Brightening Correcting Serum
A strong buzz has surrounded Decorté since its first Hong Kong flagship store opened its doors in ifc mall earlier this year. The store offers personalised services and has its own treatment rooms for facials and massages too. This month, the Japanese beauty brand is relaunching a cult favourite, the Whitelogist serum. The main difference in the new formula is the use of Kogic acid in its list of ingredients. The primary benefit of introducing Koji is for its lightening and antimicrobial properties that diminish visible sun damage, blemishes, uneven skin tone and even scars. The lightweight serum can be used to correct, but can also be used as a protector against future discolouration too.

The Beauty Products We Loved This Year
We reveal our favourite beauty discoveries of the past year -- find out what our go-to skincare brands are, make-up we never leave home without, where you'll find us when we're in need of a luxurious spa treatment, and what 2020 launches we're excited about.
Favourite Treatment
View this post on Instagram
Chantecaille's Rose de Mai Signature Facial is a big drink of goodness to quench your skin's thirst. Every visit is an opportunity to catch up on zzzs and I wake up to plumped, glowy skin. Plus, the delicate scent is reason itself to love this treatment.
Favourite Make-up Brand

Walking into Charlotte Tilbury makes me feel like a kid at a candy shop. The legendary makeup artist is the queen of colour. Her glamorous eyeshadow palettes are highly pigmented and easily blendable and buildable. To top it all, all her products are so beautiful in her signature modern-boudoir packaging.
Make-up item I can't live without...
View this post on Instagram
Having gone under the knife earlier this year (and by that, I mean microblading), I was ready to shake my brow make-up dependency. But shu uemura hard formula pencil (a combination of powder, wax and semi-solid oil; HK$200) will always have a spot on my top shelf. I still use it when I want extra definition.
Beauty product I'm always hoarding
View this post on Instagram
Masks. Be they sheet, mud, gel, peel-off or sleep. Following any masking routine, my skin feels fresh and renewed. My top-shelf products I use on rotation include WEI's Lotus Blossom Thirst Relief Sheet Mask (HK$430/6 sheets), Apivita's Prickly Pear Moisturising & Soothing Mask (HK$245) and Fresh's Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask (HK$490).
Favourite beauty hack I learned
View this post on Instagram
I've started to exfoliate once or twice a week after workouts. Sweat opens your pores so you can get a deeper cleanse and rid all impurities this way. I can control the cleanse with Tatcha's The Rice Polish Calming (HK$600) and add more or less water depending on the exfoliation I need.
Favourite overall beauty discovery
View this post on Instagram
So much has launched in 2019. But my favourite find has to be the Valmont Teint Majestuex Satin Glow Foundation (HK$1,650). What I love most about it is that it's a hybrid between make-up and skincare offering a glowy satin-like finish without drying out the skin. It also works great with the Poudre de Teint Précieuse compact powder (HK$1,380) when I need to touch up on too much shine.
Brand I'll always be loyal to
When it comes to Canvas, I can find no fault. All its products are at least 90 percent natural and organic, so I can rest easy knowing they won't irritate my very sensitive skin. I'm especially fond of the Rose Otto collection.
Favourite skincare product
View this post on Instagram
Depending on when you ask me this, my answer will probably change. But I'm currently obsessing over Sunday Riley's Luna Sleeping Night Oil (HK$450). A winning combo of retinol and blue tansy, the oil works through the night to reduce fine lines, the appearance of pores and redness. I also like that the formula is grease-proof and absorbs into your skin (rather than your pillowcase).
Favourite haircare product
View this post on Instagram
I'll be the first to admit that I'm guilty of negligence when it comes to my hair. I find a good quality hairdryer is more than half the battle. The ghd Air Hairdryer is fast-drying, controls frizz and ives my fine lifeless hair a boost of volume.
Favourite beauty personality I met this year
View this post on Instagram
Meeting Angela Caglia during her visit for her brand's launch at Lane Crawford in Hong Kong was rather memorable. She's made a name for herself by creating such beautiful, easy-to-use and effective tools. I've been hearing about her for some time now, so finally meeting her face-to-face and trying out her line was a real treat.
Favourite beauty device
Face massages helps to stimulate collagen production, plus it's relaxing when you're just sitting in front of the TV or computer. Frame Cosmetics has a Thermal Vibration Face Massaging Device (HK$4,680), which has a heating and cooling effect on top of a pulsating function that's said to help penetrate serums into deeper layers of the skin. All it takes is about 10 minutes and you've got yourself a mini at-home facial.
Favourite beauty-related social media to follow
View this post on Instagram
@gelcream posts the most beautiful product shots and honest reviews about new products. The only downside is that it will guarantee Instaenvy. Everything you find here will somehow make its way on to your wish list.
Favourite Fragrance
View this post on Instagram
I've always been a sucker or oral fragrances and my current favourite is Gucci Bloom Acqua Di Fiori (HK$1,040). The white-floral bouquet scent reminds me of fresh cut flowers without the overpowering sweetness, thanks to its earthy undertones.
Favourite Bodycare Product
View this post on Instagram
I would recommend the Aesop body range to anyone regardless of their skin type. The cleansers are gentle on the skin thanks to the nourishing botanical ingredients and are suitable year-round. Its Geranium Leaf Body Cleanser (HK$325) and Body Scrub (HK$260) are my top choices -- the fresh pine-needle and sage scent really wakes me up.
The next product I can't wait to get my hands on
View this post on Instagram
It would be impossible for me to list them all as there are so many products on my wish list! But I will say that I've been eyeing the 111Skin Rose Gold Radiance Booster (HK$895) and any of its masks for some time now. If it's good enough for Margot Robbie, Kim Kardashian and Priyanka Chopra, I can live with it. I've also heard some great things about the Dr Barbara Sturm Calming Serum (HK$1,930) and Victoria Beckham by Augustinus Bader (HK$2,100) that I wouldn't mind trying out too.

8 Gentle Skincare Soothers for Sensitive Skin
It’s all fun and games when we try out new skincare and beauty products... until something goes wrong. And despite how much you love the way something feels or smells, there is no one-size-fits-all item, formula, or routine, out there. However, it will come as a relief to your sanity, and your skin, that a holy grail does exist for every skin type. No matter how sensitive.
Whether you’ve tried a product that wasn’t quite suited for your skin concerns or you’ve just landed from a long-haul flight, or you’re going through those few days of the month when you’re especially susceptible to shit that goes on – you have your delicate moments.
We’ve handled with extra care when trying out products with the sensitivity claim (so you won’t have to), to come up with a list of eight skin-safe formulas promising zero irritation, breakouts, dryness and inflammation.
1. Aesop: Seeking Silence Facial Hydrator
[caption id="attachment_171524" align="alignnone" width="3746"] Aesop Seeking Silence Facial Hydrator (HK$415)[/caption]
The latest addition to the Australian brand’s skincare range is Aesop’s first hydrator specifically designed to soothe, calm and bring comfort to sensitive skin. Thanks to antioxidant actives like ginger root which acts as an anti-inflammatory agent; Bisabolol (an ingredient extracted from chamomile) which promotes the skin’s own healing process; and squalene which helps to condition the skin and replenishes our moisture barrier to make sure all the goodness is locked in. The woody, herbaceous fragrance is the final cherry on top.
How to use: apply morning and evening after cleansing and toning. Gently massage into the face and neck.
2. Derm Institute: Anti-Oxidant Hydration Serum
[caption id="attachment_172506" align="alignnone" width="800"] Derm Institute Anti-Oxidant Hydration Serum (HK$1,000)[/caption]
Medical skincare experts, Derm Institute introduces its new and improved Anti-oxidant Hydration Serum. The reinvented formula delivers even higher efficacy than proven previously with an infusion of seven powerful natural antioxidants (including Malpighia fruit, white tea, grape seed) to repair and protect, and nano-gold for a surge of intense hydration, the advanced formula nourishes the skin by replacing lost moisture and collagen depletion. Its Super Hydration Complex (hyaluronic acid and ceramide complex) retains 1,000 times its weight in water acting like a moisture magnet so skin is plumped, smoothed and radiant.
How to use: apply after toner and follow with lotion or cream for complete hydration.
* Derm Institute’s new Anti-oxidant Hydration Serum will hit shelves in November, 2019
3. Dr. Barbara Sturm: Anti-Pollotion Drops
[caption id="attachment_171529" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Dr. Barbara Sturm Molecular Cosmetics Anti-Pollution Drops (HK$990)[/caption]
It’s been a while since we’ve been blessed with German skincare scientist Dr. Barbara Sturm’s magic without trekking all the way to her spas in New York and Dusseldorf. While we get familiar with Molecular Cosmetics – her skincare line that has quickly gained a top shelf status, we stumbled upon her Anti-pollution drops. Two to three drops of this serum does the magic – protecting and promoting the skin barrier, combating the oxidation caused by pollutants and harmful UV, and shielding your skin from external stressors. The marine microbe extracts are responsible for neutralising airborne heavy metals while cocoa seed extracts fight against signs of digital ageing caused by blue light from our electronics – and we know all too well that there’s no exception and we’re all guilty of that.
How to use: dispense a full pipette in the palm of your hand and apply to face, eye and neck area using a gentle patting motion after cleansing.
4. First Aid Beauty: Ultra Repair BarriAir Cream
[caption id="attachment_171530" align="alignnone" width="1200"] First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair BarriAir Cream (HK$275)[/caption]
The best offence is a good defence, and as the brand and product name suggests, this good-for-all hydrating soufflé-textured cream helps to strengthen the skin’s protective outer layer when it has been compromised by harsh products and the environment. The lipids within bio-mimic the natural composition of the skin to help fortify and resume its healthy state. This airy cream is packed with hyaluronic acid to help stimulate and replenish moisture, colloidal oatmeal and antioxidant-rich vitamin E to calm, soothe and condition, and ceramides to strengthen the skin’s barrier.
How to use: apply daily in the AM and PM, and evenly over a clean face or following a serum.
5. Helena Rubinstein: Hero Re-PLASTY Age Recovery Night Cream
[caption id="attachment_171535" align="alignnone" width="1575"] Helena Rubinstein Hero Re-PLASTY Age Recovery Night Cream (HK$3,300)[/caption]
Known as the Black Bandage, Helena Rubinstein’s new evening skincare envelops damaged or concerned skin to help accelerate its recovery. Using medical technology to fuse together hyaluronic acid for hydration and glycyrrhizic acid with anti-inflammatory properties, reducing flaking and restoring suppleness to bring the repairing qualities of a band-aid. The derm-active blend is cold-pressed and Pro-Xylane is added to create that signature velvety yet featherlike bandage texture. The night cream is especially effective when worn overnight as the skin cells are regenerating, so you can wake up with nourished skin.
How to use: apply every evening to perfectly cleansed skin. Apply over the face avoiding the eye contour.
6. Omorovicza: Cashmere Cleanser
[caption id="attachment_171537" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Omorovicza Cashmere Cleanser (HK$500)[/caption]
Cleansing is the most crucial part of your routine (and if it’s not, it should be!). But nothing will leave you more paralysed with fear than stripping away all the good along with the bad when it comes to washing your face – and this is especially true for sensitive skin. The search for a powerful yet gentle cleanser probably ends with Omorovicza. Formulated for ultra-sensitive skin, this cleansing milk contains calendula extract with anti-inflammatory properties, apricot kernel oil rich in vitamin A and E to promote collagen production, shea butter to boost lipids. Say goodbye to daily grime and hello to your wonderfully clean and balanced fresh face.
How to use: apply daily to damp skin. Massage well, then rinse thoroughly.
7. RéVive: Masque de Glaise
[caption id="attachment_171539" align="alignnone" width="600"] RéVive Masque de Glaise (HK$1,100)[/caption]
You’ll know all too well that clay masks are a no-no for temperamental skin. Though it can be clarifying, it is extremely drying. But before the thought sends you running in the opposite direction, take our word that this one’s a keeper. The delicate formula is said to clear impurities, tighten, lift, and to our surprise, hydrates. After letting it settle and harden on your face, the mask hardens and once washed off, the lines on your face are ironed out and instead of that tight dryness you’d normally feel after a mask, you’re left with radiant and supple skin. At the end of the day, because it is purifying, don’t overdo the frequency of use and follow up with other hydrating products every time to maintain that supple plump.
How to use: Apply once to twice weekly. Put on liberally (at least 1/8 inch layer on cleanser skin) and leave for 15 to 20 minutes until mask hardens. Rinse well. Follow with serum and moisturiser.
8. Tatcha: The Indigo Cream
[caption id="attachment_171541" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Tatcha The Indigo Cream (HK$1,090)[/caption]
There’s obvious credibility when you know something has a history that goes back two centuries. Taking beauty secrets from rediscovered Japanese manuscripts, Tatcha has built a strong cult following for its ancient recipes for the modern world. Designed especially for sensitive skin is the Eastern beauty brand’s Indigo cream, which promises that it’s so gentle that it can offer relief to even conditions like eczema, dermatitis, rosacea and allergies. The velvety texture is luxuriously cushiony, providing instant relief and comfort to the skin. Its natural Japanese Indigo extract calms and soothes irritated skin; Colloidal Oatmeal relieves itching, subdues redness and seals in moisture; while Sophora Japonica (extract from white flowers) pumps the skin with moisture.
How to use: massage a pearl-sized amount gently onto face, neck and décolletage in upwards strokes. Use daily, morning and night.

7 Steps To Achieve Glass Skin, The K-Beauty Comeback Trend for Summer
It’s no secret that we (and the rest of the world) look towards the beauty capital that is South Korea for our skin goals. And when the masters of skincare came up with the “glass skin” trend -- an almost translucent complexion and luminous glow that seems to radiate from within -- a few years back, we were hooked. This season, it's returned in a big way. After all, who doesn’t want a gleamingly clear, poreless, dewy complexion?
So for those of you that are ready to get on board, here’s our step-by-step guide to achieving glass skin:
1. Double Cleanse
It all starts with a clean canvas. Beautiful skin is healthy skin, so hygiene is top priority. Begin with an oil cleanser that dissolves away impurities and stubborn makeup. Valmont’s Wonder Falls is a cream-melt-to-oil formula and gets the job done without stripping your face of moisture. Part two involves a water-base product like Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Enzyme Cleanser that ensures any residue or oil from part one is taken care of. The powder format allows you to blend your own concentration depending on your skin’s condition and specific needs.
[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/valmont-wonder-falls_5.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-407.jpg" right-caption="Valmont Wonder Falls" left-caption="Dr. Barbara Sturm Enzyme Cleanser"]
2. Mask
What Glass Skin requires is hydration. Be it sheet masks (Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Mask), wash off masks (Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask) or leave-in overnight masks (Laneige Water Sleeping Mask) — make sure to overindulge your skin with moisture, or better yet, drench your skin in nutrients for that luminous glow.
[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-408.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-409.jpg" right-caption="Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Mask" left-caption="Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask"]
3. Tone
Preferably choose something with a brightening element to it. Look for ingredients such as Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, and Rose Water. Layer on Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner or Guerlain Orchidée Impériale The Essence-in-Lotion so your skin can soak in all the moisture for that plump and supple look.
[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Fresh_RoseDHToner_seal-490.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-412.jpg" right-caption="Fresh Rose Toner" left-caption="Guerlain Orchidée Impériale The Essence-in-Lotion"]
4. Moisturise
Moisturise lots! Unlike makeup, when it comes to moisturising, more reallyis more. Keep in all the goodness with a moisturiser that works for your skin type and your environment. Here in Hong Kong, you’re going to want a light formula (like First Aid Beauty Coconut Water Cream or Helena Rubinstein Prodigy Cellglow The Radiant Regenerating Cream) that won’t clog your pores. Remember you want glassy, not greasy.
[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-418.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-413.jpg" right-caption="First Aid Beauty Coconut Water Cream" left-caption="Helena Rubinstein The Radiant Regenerating Cream"]
5. Protect
Nothing damages the skin more than UV, regardless of the weatherman’s prediction for sunny, overcast or thunderstorm days. A good offence is a good defence so an SPF barrier is a must. For our climate, SPF50 is a good benchmark. Similar to your moisturiser, pick something airy like Derm Institute’s Cellular Brightening Daily Defense SPF50+ or Sofina Super Moisture UV Cut Emulsion SPF 50+.
[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-411.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-410.jpg" right-caption="Derm Institute Cellular Brightening Daily Defense" left-caption="Sofina Super Moisture UV Cut Emulsion"]
6. Colour correct
Be careful in what you select, as not all products are going to work for the glass look. Clearly, avoid any matte formulas, and turn to water-based formulas such as NARS Sheer Glow Foundation. A play on light can help to accentuate the glow, so an illuminating highlighter (like Charlotte Tilbury’s Goldgasm) on the cheekbones, brow bone and cupid’s bow can amplify the glossy glow.
[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-415.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-414.jpg" right-caption="Charlotte Tilbury Goldgasm" left-caption="NARS Sheer Glow Foundation"]
7. Mist
For an extra boost (and a lot of sheen), seal in everything with a facial mist. This is also going to be your skin’s pick-me-up throughout the day, so keep a small bottle ready for when the slightest signs of dulling begin to appear (Aesop’s Immediate Moisture Facial Mist or Estée Lauder Micro Essence Aquaceutical Mist).
[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-416.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-417.jpg" right-caption="Estée Lauder Moisture Facial Mist" left-caption="Aesop Immediate Moisture Facial Mist"]
