Eileen Gu’s Million-Dollar Brand Collaborations And Endorsements
Eileen Gu is an 18-year-old freestyle skier competing for China at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. On 8 February, she won a gold medal in the women’s freeski big air competition. Six days later, she followed it up with a silver in the women’s ski slopestyle competition.
With two medals in her first Olympics at age 18, Eileen Gu not only entered history books and cemented her name as one of the greatest in her game but also justified the phenomenal popularity she has enjoyed even before her participation in this year’s Games.
Eileen Gu and how she became a magnet for global brands
A multicultural phenomenon
Eileen Gu was born to an American father and a Chinese mother, who was herself a skier. Her multicultural identity has made Gu the perfect candidate for some of the world’s most famous brands.
But those are not the only factors. Gu has been a prodigy since childhood, setting records on the snow like none other before her. Her accomplishment as a skier at a very young age is the reason Gu has been a favourite at the Games.
Initially, she played as an athlete for the US. According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), Gu, who is fluent in Mandarin, decided to play for China after meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping at a Winter Olympics preparatory event in 2019.
Her notable medal wins following the decision to represent China include two golds and one bronze at the Winter X Games, where Gu became the first female rookie to participate and win in three disciplines.
Gu also became the first Chinese woman to win multiple golds at the 2021 FIS Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in Aspen.
In 2020, she became the youngest athlete at age 17 to be featured in Forbes ‘30 under 30’.
Evidently, her popularity in China skyrocketed. Her Weibo account has around 5 million followers. To young Chinese, Gu is a powerful inspiration.
For Gu, her shared American and Chinese roots provide an opportunity to be the perfect representative for brands in two of the world’s biggest markets.
Face of acclaimed labels
In 2021, Gu was endorsing 16 brands and the following year, she added seven more labels from the USA and China combined to her portfolio. This is a testimony to her rapidly rising popularity even before this year’s Olympics.
She models for some of the world’s biggest fashion, jewellery and makeup brands, including Estée Lauder, Louis Vuitton, Victoria’s Secret and Tiffany & Co. In China, Gu is the face of major businesses such as China Mobile, Anta, Bank of China, and JD.com.
Gu frequently shares her modelling assignments on her Instagram account, where she now commands a following of more than 1 million — roughly over five times the number in January 2022.
A post from October 2021 shows Gu standing before The Louvre glass pyramid in Paris, France, where she attended the Louis Vuitton SS22 at the Paris Fashion Week. Interestingly, the glass structure is a creation of Chinese-American architect IM Pei.

One of her Instagram posts shows Gu using wellness technology major Therabody’s Theragun on her thigh.
View this post on Instagram
She appeared in the promotion of Louis Vuitton Twist bags in December 2021 and was named the brand ambassador of the Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen the following month.
Gu has appeared for the 2021 Give Me The T campaign of Tiffany & Co. Nearly all her endorsements can be seen on her Instagram page.
Followers can also see numerous posts of Gu gracing the cover of top luxury lifestyle magazines, including Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, In Style China, Cosmopolitan, SuperELLE China and Vogue.
According to market research firm CBNData, Gu earned an estimated USD 31.4 million in 2021. This places her among the highest-earning female athletes in the world. Interestingly, Quartz pointed out that Forbes did not include Gu in its list of the highest-paid female athletes in 2021.
Had she been included, the skier would have ranked third — behind tennis stars Naomi Osaka (USD 57.3 million) and Serena Williams (USD 45.9 million).
Her style is followed by millions in China and world over. Following her gold medal win, her fame is only going to rise.

Global Brands Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2021
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer amongst women, and it is the major cause of death related to oncological diseases.
Every year, October is observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The entire world comes together to do their bit by donating to several programmes and cancer centres to raise awareness about the disease.
Breast cancer survivor and America's National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., (NBCF) supporter, Patryce Sheppard, says she has realised she “was not educated or aware about what breast cancer actually was and how it impacted and affected people."
This is the kind of assistance and guidance Breast Cancer Awareness Month, too, aims to provide along with inspiring hope among those who are suffering from breast cancer.
Amid all this, one wonders how we arrived at choosing a pink ribbon that symbolises the support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is seen on advertisement boards, social media, collaborations, charities and everywhere the eye goes. This association has an intriguing history.
In 1990, Komen of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was distributing pink visors to breast cancer survivors who ran in the Race for the Cure event, bringing the colour to the limelight. In late 1991, they handed out pink ribbons during the race in New York City.
The following year, editor-in-chief of Self magazine Alexandra Penney teamed up with Evelyn Lauder — a breast cancer survivor and the then Estée Lauder senior corporate vice president — who added the pink ribbon to its cosmetic counters in the US.
Soon, they came across a 68-year-old woman named Charlotte Haley, who came from a family where most women had battled breast cancer. Handing out peach-coloured loops at the local market, her message stated: "The National Cancer Institute annual budget is USD 1.8 billion, only 5 percent goes for cancer prevention. Help us wake up our legislators and America by wearing this ribbon."
Having already distributed thousands and spread her message by word of mouth, Haley refused to collaborate with Self, saying they were “too commercial”. However, the magazine wanted to continue with the ribbon. The brand’s lawyers suggested they come up with a different colour. That is how they arrived at '150-pink'.
Over the years, many global brands have also joined hands with international funds and breast cancer charities that either help people suffering from the disease through medical and financial services or support breast cancer research that is trying to find new and innovative ways of fighting the disease.
Here are some global brands that are trying to make a difference in the battle against breast cancer and contributing during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Black Diamond Truffle is Estée Lauder’s Secret to Spirited Eyes
The new year brings new hope that things will get better soon, but in the meantime, there's no denying that our home spa set-up has gotten exceptionally elaborate. There's nothing like a good skincare ritual to nourish the skin, especially now, when the weather is cold and dry. Estée Lauder has made it possible for our eyes to travel to France even if we physically can't. Want to know Estée Lauder's secret to make your eyes look happy and spirited? It's the potent black diamond truffles from Southwest of France.
If your skin is calling out for a shot of some serious TLC, Estée Lauder's newest Re-Nutriv Ultimate Diamond Transformative Eye Serum is here to help. All the way from the Southwest of France to your home, the top-of-the-line Re-Nutriv Ultimate Diamond collection is infused with precious Black Diamond Truffle Extract and patented youth-sustaining technology, guaranteed to instantly lift tired eyes and make them look and feel sculpted and less puffy.
The Potent Black Diamond Truffle
French black diamond truffles are amongst the rarest and most luxurious ingredients in the world, harvested from the Southwest of France. Truffles have long been lauded for their delicious scent, but they also hold a lot of medicinal qualities — with rich and potent nutrients that can reveal a more sculpted look for eyes that reflect a multi-faceted brilliance.
The potency-retaining extraction process
Through a complex extraction process commissioned by Estée Lauder that takes nearly 10,000 hours, the black diamond truffles are extracted within days of harvesting to retain their potency, finely ground, and ultra-purified for use in Estée Lauder's Re-Nutriv Ultimate Diamond line. In vitro testing by Estée Lauder Research shows that it manipulates our skin cells to behave like younger skin cells, activating our skin's ability to renew and replenish itself for a more youthful appearance.
The potent eye serum also contains soothing ingredients such as lady thistle's extract and marine algae as well as precious refined 24k gold and south sea pearls with illuminating optics to brighten the skin. One drop of the serum will instantly de-puff the skin around the eyes and stimulate the production of natural collagen within two hours. In three days, collagen is increased by 215%, resulting in a brighter and tightened look around the eyes.
Patent-pending eye wand
The state-of-the-art, patent-pending ceramic eye wand that comes with the Re-Nutriv Ultimate Diamond Transformative Eye Serum can help you best extract the power and goodness of the black diamond truffle.
Indulgent application techniques
After applying the serum, use the eye wand and sweep the tip from the inner corner under the eye to the temple, and repeat. To take pampering to the next level, Re-Nutriv's expert aestheticians have developed three types of massage techniques: awakening, energising, and infinite Zen, to indulge the senses and maximise the effects of the eye serum. The power of time is literally at your fingertips.
Head to Estée Lauder's boutiques for a demonstration, or learn the techniques yourself by visiting their website here.

The Brands We Love That Are Fighting Against Coronavirus
In the dire times that our world is currently facing, nothing beats coming together as a solid community. And as the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases continue to climb, heavyweight entrepreneurs and global businesses are doing what they can to rise to the challenge. Whether it's transforming factories from manufacturing high fashion to medical necessities, funding research or spreading important messages to their mega fan base, here are what some of the brands are doing in our fight against the pandemic.
Armani
The Armani Group is diving deep to support the cause of fighting the pandemic. Aside from donating US$1.4 million to hospitals and health organisations including Luigi Sacco, San Rafaele, Istituto dei Tumori and Instituto Lazzaro Spallanzni, with partial funding that will go towards Italy’s National Civil Protection Department, Armani has also switched up its production plants to produce single use medical overalls that will be distributed to healthcare workers throughout the country.
Burberry
British luxury house Burberry is switching gears to produce surgical gowns instead of their iconic trench coats. Donating over 100,000 surgical masks provided by a global supplier, along with medical gowns and masks produced in their Castleford trench factory in Yorkshire. Alongside these supplies, Burberry is also set to support vaccine research at Oxford University, as well as charities including FareShare and The Felix Project, which are offering aid to communities affected by the outbreak.
Bvlgari
Roman jeweller and watchmaker Bulgari continues to support the scientific and medical community in their fight against coronavirus. Following an important donation to the Spallanzani Hospital for Infection Diseases, Bulgari has decided to manufacture 100,000 bottles of hand sanitiser gel to be supplied to medical facilities and more through the Italian Civil Protection Department. The 75ml gels are bottled in recyclable plastic and the luxury brand will continue to manufacture and distribute in the coming months.
Chanel
Chanel is one of the latest to jump onboard the battle against coronavirus with its factories transformed into face mask and medical gown workshops. Prototypes are currently being designed and production lines are ready to go once approved by French authorities. While helping to close the gap between mask shortages, Chanel has also promised to retain the jobs of all 8,500 employees in France during this economic struggle too.
Dior
The French fashion label has recently joined its fellow LVMH brands in the production of Coronavirus supplies. Dior has just revealed that it has reopened their Baby Dior Atelier in Redon and dedicated its efforts to making new masks on a volunteer basis. Apart from medical staff, the masks by Dior will mainly be distributed to workers in supermarkets and other sectors still open and operating on a daily basis.
Estée Lauder
Estée Lauder is contributing US$2 million to Doctors Without Borders to support its efforts in countries that lack substantial resources to protect and fight against Covid-19. In addition, they will be reopening their factory in Melville to start producing hydroalcoholic hand gel and donating two million surgical masks for high-need groups including front-line medical staff in New York.
Gucci
In response to the Covid-19 outbreak, Gucci calls on the #GucciCommunity to launch two crowd-fundraising campaigns, alongside a donation of US$2.2 million. Accompanying the campaigns is a “We Are All In This Together” call-to-action, represented by an illustration depicting a person with their hand to their heart — a symbol of solidarity, gifted by Rome-based artist MP5. Half of the funding will go towards supporting the efforts of the National Civil Protection Department in Italy, in partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo. The other half will be channelled into supporting the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund in support of the World Health Organisation, which will be matched by Facebook.
Ralph Lauren
Making the largest donation amongst all luxury companies so far in the war against Covid-19 is Ralph Lauren. The Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation has committed to US$10 million in relief efforts to help their team, partners and communities impacted by the pandemic across the globe through financial grants such as the Emergency Assistance Foundation, the brand’s Pink Pony Fund and more.

7 Steps To Achieve Glass Skin, The K-Beauty Comeback Trend for Summer
It’s no secret that we (and the rest of the world) look towards the beauty capital that is South Korea for our skin goals. And when the masters of skincare came up with the “glass skin” trend -- an almost translucent complexion and luminous glow that seems to radiate from within -- a few years back, we were hooked. This season, it's returned in a big way. After all, who doesn’t want a gleamingly clear, poreless, dewy complexion?
So for those of you that are ready to get on board, here’s our step-by-step guide to achieving glass skin:
1. Double Cleanse
It all starts with a clean canvas. Beautiful skin is healthy skin, so hygiene is top priority. Begin with an oil cleanser that dissolves away impurities and stubborn makeup. Valmont’s Wonder Falls is a cream-melt-to-oil formula and gets the job done without stripping your face of moisture. Part two involves a water-base product like Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Enzyme Cleanser that ensures any residue or oil from part one is taken care of. The powder format allows you to blend your own concentration depending on your skin’s condition and specific needs.
[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/valmont-wonder-falls_5.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-407.jpg" right-caption="Valmont Wonder Falls" left-caption="Dr. Barbara Sturm Enzyme Cleanser"]
2. Mask
What Glass Skin requires is hydration. Be it sheet masks (Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Mask), wash off masks (Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask) or leave-in overnight masks (Laneige Water Sleeping Mask) — make sure to overindulge your skin with moisture, or better yet, drench your skin in nutrients for that luminous glow.
[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-408.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-409.jpg" right-caption="Tatcha Luminous Deep Hydration Lifting Mask" left-caption="Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask"]
3. Tone
Preferably choose something with a brightening element to it. Look for ingredients such as Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, and Rose Water. Layer on Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner or Guerlain Orchidée Impériale The Essence-in-Lotion so your skin can soak in all the moisture for that plump and supple look.
[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Fresh_RoseDHToner_seal-490.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-412.jpg" right-caption="Fresh Rose Toner" left-caption="Guerlain Orchidée Impériale The Essence-in-Lotion"]
4. Moisturise
Moisturise lots! Unlike makeup, when it comes to moisturising, more reallyis more. Keep in all the goodness with a moisturiser that works for your skin type and your environment. Here in Hong Kong, you’re going to want a light formula (like First Aid Beauty Coconut Water Cream or Helena Rubinstein Prodigy Cellglow The Radiant Regenerating Cream) that won’t clog your pores. Remember you want glassy, not greasy.
[dual-images right-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-418.jpg" left-image-url="https://www.prestigeonline.com/hk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Untitled-design-413.jpg" right-caption="First Aid Beauty Coconut Water Cream" left-caption="Helena Rubinstein The Radiant Regenerating Cream"]
5. Protect
Nothing damages the skin more than UV, regardless of the weatherman’s prediction for sunny, overcast or thunderstorm days. A good offence is a good defence so an SPF barrier is a must. For our climate, SPF50 is a good benchmark. Similar to your moisturiser, pick something airy like Derm Institute’s Cellular Brightening Daily Defense SPF50+ or Sofina Super Moisture UV Cut Emulsion SPF 50+.

6. Colour correct
Be careful in what you select, as not all products are going to work for the glass look. Clearly, avoid any matte formulas, and turn to water-based formulas such as NARS Sheer Glow Foundation. A play on light can help to accentuate the glow, so an illuminating highlighter (like Charlotte Tilbury’s Goldgasm) on the cheekbones, brow bone and cupid’s bow can amplify the glossy glow.

7. Mist
For an extra boost (and a lot of sheen), seal in everything with a facial mist. This is also going to be your skin’s pick-me-up throughout the day, so keep a small bottle ready for when the slightest signs of dulling begin to appear (Aesop’s Immediate Moisture Facial Mist or Estée Lauder Micro Essence Aquaceutical Mist).
